Flemish government approves Cooperation Agreement on kilometer charge

On January 31, 2014 the Flemish government has approved the Cooperation Agreement between the three Regions of Belgium (the Flemish Region, the Wallonian Region and the Brussels Capital Region) concerning the introduction of a kilometer charge.

The Flemish government also consented to the establishment of a Interregional Cooperation Viapass. This dossier still needs to be approved by the parliament.
On Thursday a progress report involving kilometer charge was made public, and revealed that four tenders to attract a ‘Single Service Provider’ who has to design, build , finance en exploit the system, were submitted.

The winning tender will be selected in the first half of 2014. Afterwards the development of the system can begin, and should be fully operational by 2016.
