Wallonia to index kilometer charge on 1 January 2023

Brussels, 13 October 2022 – As of Sunday 1 January 2023, new tariffs for the kilometer charge will apply in Wallonia. This is an index adjustment. The tariffs apply to all Belgian and foreign heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 3.5 tons and semi-trailer towing vehicles of category N1 with body code BC. No paying toll roads will be added on 1 January. The tariffs for the kilometer charge in Flanders and Brussels were indexed on 1 July.

The software of activated OBUs (On Board Units) of the seven service providers accredited for the kilometer charge in Belgium will be automatically updated with the new tariffs that come into force in Wallonia on 1 January. The seven service providers are currently Axxès, Eurotoll, Satellic, Telepass, Toll4Europe, TotalEnergies Marketing Services and W.A.G. Payment Solutions.

An OBU is a device in the truck cabin that records the number of kilometers driven on paying toll roads. Trucks and semi-trailer towing vehicles registered in Belgium or abroad must always have the OBU switched on when driven on public roads in the three regions.

The amount charged per kilometer on toll roads depends on three factors: the region where the road is located, the GVW and the Euro emission standard of the vehicle. The kilometer charge applies to three GVW categories (more than 3.5 tons to 12 tons, more than 12 tons to 32 tons, and more than 32 tons) and seven Euro standards (from the most polluting Euro 0 standard to the most environmentally friendly Euro 6 standard). The higher the Euro standard of the vehicle and the lower its GVW, the more advantageous the tariff per kilometer driven.

On 1 January, the new tariffs will be available for consultation on the download page of the Viapass website. You can already consult the tariffs that will apply here.
